About

Paramedic first.
Camera second.

I am Haitham Kalo. I work as a paramedic, and I know that the first minutes of any emergency decide everything after.

So I carry a camera next to the medic bag. I show the field as it is, and I teach you what to do before we arrive.

Off duty, I go back to the field as a volunteer. The show documents that side too, because many lives are saved by volunteers.

  • FieldFrom inside the scene, never from behind a desk.
  • DocumentaryReal stories. No hype.
  • AwarenessOne simple fact can save a life.

The Show

The First Responder

Every episode is a different day: on my motorbike, in my car, or with an ambulance crew. Four fixed stages, and one heart beating fast.

  1. 01

    The call

The radio goes off. Little information, even less time.

  2. 02

    The road

Every second counts, and every car that gives way matters.

  3. 03

    The scene

Calm inside the chaos, and a decision made in a moment.

  4. 04

    The after

What you rarely see: the human behind the uniform.

Volunteering

Emergency care is not just a job.
It is a role you can take on.

The First Responder wants you to see the field, then step into it: as a volunteer, or as the first responder at home, on the road and at work.

  1. 01

    Start with a course

A certified first aid course is the first step for any volunteer, and it teaches what no short clip can.

  2. 02

    Sign up to volunteer

Saudi Arabia’s National Volunteering Platform lists health and emergency volunteering opportunities and records your hours.

  3. 03

    Be the closest

In most emergencies a bystander arrives before the ambulance. If you know what to do, you are the first responder.

First aid

Before we arrive,
you are the first responder.

Six first aid skills worth two minutes of your time.

01

CPR

  • Make sure the scene is safe, then call 997.
  • Push hard and fast on the centre of the chest, 100 to 120 compressions a minute.
  • Do not stop until the crew arrives or a defibrillator is ready.
02

Choking

  • If they can cough, encourage them to keep coughing.
  • Five back blows between the shoulder blades, then five abdominal thrusts.
  • If they lose consciousness, call 997 and start CPR.
03

Bleeding

  • Press firmly and directly on the wound with a clean cloth.
  • If the dressing soaks through, add another on top. Do not remove it.
  • Call 997 if the bleeding does not stop.
04

Burns

  • Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes.
  • No ice, no toothpaste, no butter.
  • Cover it with a clean, non-stick dressing.
05

Stroke signs

  • One side of the face suddenly drooping.
  • Weakness in one arm, or slurred speech.
  • Call 997 at once and note when the symptoms started.
06

Give way

  • Hear the siren? Slow down and check your mirrors.
  • Move calmly to the nearest safe side.
  • Never tail an ambulance, and never stop suddenly.
